  • The weekend was mostly spent at home though technically I had a lot I could have been doing.  I'm not really upset about it, it was a good weekend, though i blew off pretty much all of my plans.
  • Friday night I had planned to go to gothic bar heaven, this event is kind of hit or miss but I really like one of the DJs there and one of the floor hostesses always specifically invites me so I feel like I should go.  I made reservations for it via the floor hostess and tried to take a nap before going.  That was a mistake as I woke up at 1:30am, which means all the trains had stopped and I missed the event.  On the up side, i got about 13 hours of sleep.
  • Saturday was similar.  I spent the morning playing Street Fighter 4 with Minh, Wayne D. and Josh H..  It was a fun morning as I haven't talked to the latter 2 in 3 or 4 years at least.  That pretty much took up the whole morning for me though.
  • Saturday afternoon involved me playing a lot of Bully and working on my mask for a little bit.  I worked on it but when I was walking through my living room this morning I realized that the work I did on it is kind of lopsided so the whole section is going to have to be reworked again.  Ah well, so go the perils of sculpture.
  • Saturday evening was Midnight Mess.  I didn't end up going to that either because Mihoko came over around 9pm and didn't want to go.  Instead we watched the extended version of Planet Terror.  I originally saw Planet Terror in the theaters with Death Proof and I want to point out that usually, when there is an extended version of a movie, I can pick out the extended parts.  No dice in this one.  It seemed almost exactly as I remember it.
  • Sunday was the only day I actually went out to an event.  Though before that, in the afternoon, I made some apple spice muffins and lazed about for a while.
  • The event was from 6pm and I arrived at around 7pm.  It ended up being another day where I did makeup really quickly and without a real design.  Still it came out OK though.  The event itself was OK though the DJs were uncharacteristically bad.  Usually I am not a huge fan of the DJs but whatever was going on this time made for a generally bad night for music.  There were a lot of people that I knew there though so the event turned out to be really fun in the end.  There are pictures, I just don't have any, I'll get them via Mixi later on today or tomorrow.

  • I had another weekend where I left the house! Who's proud of me?  I went out on both Saturday and Sunday, which is practically unheard of.
  • Friday night was pretty uneventful.  I spent a bit of time watching movies on youtube and reading about standard cooking materials via my gigantic cooking textbook.  I think I got inexplicably tired around 10:30 and shuffled off to bed not much later than that.  I had one of those nights that I imagine old ladies have often.
  • Saturday was a bit different.  There was the hanami party in the afternoon but I skipped out on that.  I was feeling lazy and didn't want to go out so instead I stayed home and baked an apple pie.  The pie turned out great!  My only complaint with it is that the apples I used weren't sour enough.  I'd have liked to use Granny Smith apples but I don't know what they are called in Japanese and I also don't know where I'd buy them as I don't think I've seen them in any supermarkets.  I should ask some Japanese people what a sour Japanese apple is and use that next time.
  • While making the pie I got an email from a friend of mine.  She was saying that her friend cancelled and she had an extra ticket to go see the musical "Wicked" and asked if I wanted to come.  I have had a semi-interest in reading the book Wicked for a while but not a strong enough interest to, you know, actually buy it and read it.  However, to see the musical in Japanese for free seemed like a good replacement for that so I agreed.  In the end, the musical was pretty good.  The sets were really nicely put together and the story wasn't half bad.  In the end, I'm glad that I saw it.
  • Afterwards I spent a bit of time reading "The Game Players of Titan", which I'll probably finish today.  I like Phillip K. Dick's books because they inevitably involve some type of confusing drug freak out and a weird sense of reality being flipped around and unreal.  Nearly all of the stories I've read have that in the narrative somewhere.
  • Sunday was good too.  I finally got out and saw Watchmen in Shibuya.  It opened on Saturday.  The Sunday crowd was not all that big though.  Actually, the theater was probably %70 full, which is probably not a good sign for the success of Watchmen in Japan.  Anyway, at least I was able to get a relatively good seat and not have to sit directly next to any creeper.  I did enjoy the movie.  Some of the reviews complained about the length but I didn't think it felt long at all.  Actually, I was starting to worry that they story would be clipped because they wouldn't be able to fit the whole of it in the remaining time.  I will agree that Rorschach was amazing in the movie though.  I guess the ending, though changed, is kind of OK.  It gets the same point accross though not quite as spectacularly.  I am excited to see the directors cut whenever it comes out.
  • Since I was in Shibuya anyway, I stopped by the cheese shop in hopes of getting Sakura cheese.  Sakura cheese is like Japan's only native cheese that is worth a damn.  Unfortunately they were sold out when I got there.  They suggested another place but it was sold out there too.  I ended up buying some ricotta and some other type of french cheese that I can't quite remember at the moment.  I have yet to actually eat any.

  • What an interesting weekend I had.  I actually left the house and did stuff.  Well, I did on Saturday at least.
  • Last week, Friday couldn't have come fast enough.  I was really itching to not have to come to work so of course that meant that Friday took forever.  I was constantly looking at the clock only to realize that I seemingly had an endless amount of hours left.  I trudged onwards and finally left.  Not to go home but to get my hair cut.
  • I want to be dramatic and say that my haircut took 5 hours.  Actually, the cutting was done much faster than that but I hung out with [info]kayteanese and Kazu until almost midnight.  I think that was the first time I've had a legitimate long and interesting conversation with anyone I've met in Tokyo.  Those two are good people.
  • I got home on Friday via the last train.  Which is generally crammed full of people but wasn't for some reason that day.  It's like one of those occaisions where small things are going well and you can't help but thinking of Ice Cube and his not having to shoot his AK.  Unfortunately, there was no Goodyear blimp proclaiming my pimpness.
  • Saturday was busy.  It was like an endless stream of activities.  First I set out in the afternoon in a failed attempt to see The curious case of Benjamin Button.  I met up with a friend of mine at Minato Mirai station and we set off to the movie theater only to find that all the tickets were sold out.  We then went to another theater in Kawasaki but just before we got to the ticket counter they were all sold out.  I never actually did get to see it but the process of running around a lot was fun.
  • After that, I went home and started putting the finishing touches on my decadance costume.  I had a lot of little things to do for it like make fake eyelashes and glue little white leaves all over the place.  It, as always, took longer than I expected it to.  Eventually Shigeko, the girl who made the clothing I designed came over with my clothes.  Everything was acceptable so I changed, did make-up and headed out to Shibuya via the last train.
  • It was really cold.  Not because it was actually really cold, it was probably hovering around freezing, but because I couldn't wear a jacket with my clothing and it was the equivalent to wearing a button down shirt or a long sleeve t-shirt in that weather.  Needless to say I was shivering and my muscles were all tight from being so cold.
  • Decadance was fun, I was a popular guy, which is awesome because I was mostly white and pink and covered with flowers.  From what I understand, the more feminine I make myself look, the more popular I am.  I got to talk to a ton of people that I had never talked to before plus I met some people that I've only talked to via mixi including members of this performance group called Scop.  They are 4 girls with painted white faces, white wigs and colorful 60's style gogo dresses.  It's like village of the damned at a freak out.  They are amazing.  I wish I had photos.
  • Sunday was spent mostly sleeping and cooking.  I woke up around 1:30 pm and after using the computer for a while I set out to the supermarket for supplies.  I ended up making a cherry pie and some blueberry muffins.  I also ate pork chops with a stir fried eggplant, onion and mushrooms.  It was all made while the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory played in the background.  I can, pretty much like all the songs I've heard a couple of times, sing the entire movie.
  • I didn't actually bring my camera because I was in a hurry and couldn't figure out where I put it.  There are a few pictures though:

The idea here was originally supposed to be more cute but because I am bald (via a bald cap) I looked like a weird flower monk or something similar.  The bald cap was done so well that at least 10 different people asked me if I had shaved my head completely for the costume.

Here is another shot.  The long pieces of clothe are alternatively either my collar or the extra long sleeves of the costume.  The collar and sleeves are both about 2 meters long and are wrapped around my arms and neck so that I didn't trip over them.  There will be a video of it later.

Here is the first of a few shots I took with other people.  I'm just waiting for the others to show up on Mixi.  From then, I'll probably post more photos up.  For now, there is only this one with me and Mitake.

No, I'm not going to put up an LJ cut.  I demand that you look at these photos every time you look at your friends page.

  • For the past day or two I have been downloading "Basket Case 2".  The download for it is really slow though.  Now, I actually own the DVD for "Basket Case 2" and "Basket Case" but unfortunately not the freakishly awesome "Basket Case 3".  Those two DVDs are in the US now so they are unwatchable but through the magic of the digital age I have been able to watch "Basket Case" on youtube (with spanish subtitles!) and will probably be watching part 2 tonight.   Who has seen "Basket Case" by the way?  Anyone?  It's amazing for the weirdness factor alone.
  • More on the Downard book.  Today's reading contains a lot of stuff about Alexander Graham Bell getting head from various men on Jeckyll island as part of some magick sex rituals.  There is also a murder covered up by the Ku Klux Klan and at least one point where he traps a seemingly peodophlic hotel manager in a room and blows him up via an intentional gas leak.  All of this is condensened into about one chapter.  He is apparently traveling around to various magick spots with his weird mother and someone who is supposedly a count.  It's all bizarre.  Did I mention that this is supposed to be a non-fiction autobiography?
  • Yesterday, my excercise program restarted.  I was able to get up enough momentum to start excercising again last night so hopefully I'll be able to keep it up.  The anabolic part is still going to be rough though, no doubt about that.  I am not much of a runner.  Anyway, I'll be giving that a shot tonight.  Maybe I'll walk/jog/run/jog/run/jog/walk to the grocery store.  I admit, I should do this before eating to avoid an inevitable vomitty ending.
  •  Japan tends to get movies late, which has prevented me from partaking in Watchmen mania like so many others have.  I really want to see it but I still have at least 2 and half more weeks to wait.  It's too bad because regardless of all the critical reviews, I am still excited to see it.  Speaking of movies being late, Benjamin Button and the new Friday the 13th are just out here now.
  • I wish the post office was more convenient to get to and actually open at times when people might want to use it.  What is the point of the post office being open only until 6pm.  Nobody with a job can go there, ever.  The post office closest to me is open Monday through Friday 9 - 6.  That doesn't make sense for so many reasons.  There is a larger post office but I don't think the actual shipping area is open past 6 either.  There is a post office near my job though but it's impossible to visit due to ridiculous lines during lunch (as hundreds and hundreds of company employees all have lunch at the same time).  My only other option is to go during work but not during lunch which involves so pretty easy to do sneaking away.  Why am I talking about this?  I have a box of kit-kats just waiting to be sent out to one Mr. [livejournal.com profile] villagecharm .  I believe there are over 20 varieties at this point, possibly 23 varieties.  It would be impossible to not send it out with that amount.
  • [livejournal.com profile] ishedmywings  also scanned some bread recipes for me.  That is always welcome.  One of them is really similar to the way I made my white bread.  The wheat bread recipe is completely different to the one that I made though so I think I'll probably give this one a shot too.  Thanks!

  • The weekend was uneventful.  I spent most of Saturday at home doing nothing.  I watched a couple of movies, used the internet, made some blueberry muffins and general lounged about.  I had planned on going to dark castle in the evening but I ended up falling asleep and not waking up in time to catch the train.
  • Sunday was equally as exciting.  I did leave the house to go to the supermarket though.  I watched Pulp Fiction for the first time in probably 10 years and I realized that there was a few things I forgot entirely.  Like the "Mr. Wolf" character.  I don't care what anyone says, I really want to see the new Tarantino movie.
  • I spent some time cooking too.  I made macaroni and cheese plus a kind of spinach and cheese quiche-like thing.  It had no crust though so it would be more like just the quiche filling cut into squares.  In the end, it came out pretty well and I haven't had any macaroni and cheese for years so it was a kind of nice treat.
  • I finally started reading "Carnivals of Life and Death" this morning.  I made it mostly through the two introductions, one by Adam Parfrey and one by James Shelby Downard himself.  I haven't started the first chapter yet and already the book seems like it is going to be amazing beyond belief.  I don't think i was 3 pages into the introduction before there were mentions of a devil sign conspiracy at the post office, allusions to a tale of being drugged with aboulia and at least one reference to bio-mechanical control of sexual urges through some type of mechanism placed in a woman's ass.  I dare anyone to find a book mentioning all of those things in the entire book, never mind just in the introduction.
  • I'm hoping the clothes that I designed will be done by Saturday.  I tried on the shirt on Saturday but it was a bit weird in places so it has to be altered.  Even if it's not perfect, I hope it get done at least.
